Workout Thread

Post by Razz R »

Hello all,
Please post your workout karnama's here.. I'm trying to stay motivated and trying to exercise on a regular schedule ( yet again). for me this is an on again off again game.. i will feel lazy and quit doing any exercise for 6 months and then try to get back on the wagon.. but as i age this is getting more and more difficult.(the getting back on the wagon err treadmill).. but the benefits are self explanatory.. you look great with or without clothes.. you feel good, have more energy blah blah.. sleep better ( as if i needed any help in that department, i'm always sleeping..).

So please feel free to update here what you did to take care of your body today.. me i ran on the tread mill for 30 mins.. well if i have to be honest, 15 mins run, another 15 minutes of fast walking+ intermittent running.. I find that after a long gap.. i cannot get back to to running 30 mins at a stretch all of a sudden - i have to build back to it.. which i plan to do.. covered about 2 miles.. checked off the exercise ring on my apple watch. about 6204 steps thus far..

For me, my Apple watch is the motivator. Try to close the rings most days with different workouts, indoor/outdoor walk, gym equipment like elliptical, strength training alternate day and stretching/yoga for 30 min. Calorie count may not be accurate but with consistency it works out.

I started going to gym at 54 yr of age. Now after 1.5 year I can say i am in best shape in my life.
My advice to everyone over 40 is go to gym, life weights and be consistent. Just dont injure yourself.
As for the motivation when you see your body shape changing when you look in the mirror ,that will be the motivator
oh and the hotties too

I walk 10kms daily. It has become a routine now and I feel really bad when I don't do it. My digestion, mood, thoughts etc has improved a lot. It has improved my sleep quality also but that is primarily influenced on what I eat. I have been doing it for around 3yrs now. Initially it was around 8-9k steps a day as I would drop and pick my son. So it was forced walk. But after 1yr he started going to school on this own and I made concious effort to make it 7k in morning walk. After moving to India, I joined our society group and that has motivated a lot. For last 8months I have walked 10kms 6days a week regularly. There are competitions within the society and that encourages a lot. These competition on Samsung fitness app tracks everyone's walk.

Earlier it would hurt a lot and I would be sleepy all day long after walking for 10kms in morning. But now I do not feel anything. Maybe my body has become resistant to it.

I also joined cultfit gym in India for weights. Goal is to go 3times a week to their weight classes. But that's a struggle for me personally. I am a big fan of outside walking but gym bores me out. UK has great outdoors and one should take great advantage of the outdoor walking space. I have not seen that in America either. And it's safer in UK. In India you can only walk in the society. Outside is too chaotic and dirty. Plus summer weather in India is very difficult. You have to wake up at 5am and finish before 7am or else it too hot. But winter awesome as it's cold and sunny. And you can simply go at anytime of the day.

India has lot of sun. So that helps with the mood also. I have noticed the difference when it's sunny vs not. It motivates to go for walk on daily when it's sunny outside.

My goal is to build consistency in gym as weight training is equally important and it helps in preventing injury. I may start to play cricket again soon but let's see. All my friends keep on asking on when will I start playing. I think 45yrs is little too old to play cricket. I am inclined towards golf but don't have company. Cricket is common man's sport and golf is just too posh.

You guys are inspiring.. i bought an under the desk treadmill, which i sometimes bring out during the workday and walk like 2 miles on it, while I'm in office con calls or catching up on email.. but mostly have been slacking.. used to bench press.. but stopped that after a shoulder injury and right now have an umbilical hernia which i need to get fixed up.. so haven't been doing any weights in a while.. but yes.. the best way to get in shape is cardio + weight training..

Finally this year I would get body fat% below 18 :) , only problem is the gym is too full due to New Year resolution. Sometimes I can’t get hold of equipment and resort to alternatives ;)
