Andaz apna apna (Each to his own). You called the oped as trash and not the democratic voter as trash or dumb disloyal, good grace
Anyway until Biden proves me otherwise, I will continue to hold on my assessment that we democratic party supporters need a non-senile leader. If I were his adviser, I would ask him to take a cognitive test, explain why there are monthly visits by a parkinsons specialist to white house 8 times in last 8 months and if there is pressure from his own circle (wife, his disgraced son Hunter) to remain in the race.
When I mail by Ballots in late october, if he is still the candidate , I will write my name (US Ballot allows us to write a deserving candidate)

A wonderfully fashionable thing to do but plan on attending the women's march or whatever the heck it will be called at that time, on Jan 20,2025 after the King's coronation. One would never hear this desertion from "poorly educated" MAGA crowd, even if T shoots someone in broad daylight on 5th Ave in NYC!RBee wrote: ↑Tue Jul 09, 2024 2:45 pm Andaz apna apna (Each to his own). I am neither for nor against Biden continuing to run- he won the primaries and it's for him to decide if he wants to quit or not. Biden knows enough to ensure what happened in 1968 does not happen again. Every moment spent on in-fighting is a moment wasted on not attacking the real evil. Still, T's Palestinian slur on the debate was noticed by Arab-Americans that were 'uncommitted" and for the first time in a long time Biden is leading T by 5 points in MI. Almost always, the presidential elections are the choice between the lesser of two evils and this time it's no different and the evil cannot be clearer.nodegree wrote: ↑Tue Jul 09, 2024 12:12 pm SAPPORO - Much like Stocks, candidates are elected on their future potential not prior accomplishments. No denying that this Biden administration accomplished significant legislative milestones (especially in the first two years thanks to capable Ron Klain). A lot more capable than Obama's West Wing.
The same Obama West Wing alums are now crying for Biden to dropout (the usual bedwetters as they say). But they do have a point though. Dem party (and the country by extension) got screwed over by people too old still clinging onto their power. Take Feinstein, RBG. Why even take such a huge gamble again?

Re: US Elections 2024 - the most consequential election again!
Crooked media and Dem establishment elites like Obama are trying to bury Biden as Trump routinely used to complain in 2016. NATO summit was successful, and the press conference was good with coherent thoughts and a lot of modulation in voice as a bonus but still the media headlines gloating about him getting mixed up with names. I routinely used to get mixed up with my dog's name and my son's name and wonder if should get a cognitive test or if I am already demented?
Roles have been reversed from 2020, "Basement Biden" won by staying quiet which T trying to emulate it now with the media and DDD digging their own graves. Biden most likely be forced to drop out to steal the thunder from T next week, as T/RNC announces their VP pick, DNC would be announcing their Presidential pick. But it may not help Dems in the polls since DDD are so dumb that they spoke too much without understanding the consequences- if they had to complain, they should have at least said that Biden is Ok now, but they are worried about him for the next four years. Hopefully, that's what Biden would say when he's dropping out after a decent press conference.
What's up with the polls, first time in a long time Biden is leading T in national polls- are the MAGA voters doing this on purpose to keep Biden on the Dem ticket?!

Establishment/Corporate/Donor Dems - It's very simple, Biden proposed raising corp tax from 21% to 28% and quadrupling the buy back excise rate from 1% to 4% when the TCJA expires in 2025. Unlike Obama, Biden proved to be much more competent in passing legislation. All Wall St. big names already backed Trump even before the debate and the Donor Dems don't want Biden. Not to mention, appointing people like Lina Khan has been a sore point for many.SAPPORO wrote: ↑Fri Jul 12, 2024 11:33 am Crooked media and Dem establishment elites like Obama are trying to bury Biden as Trump routinely used to complain in 2016. Surprisingly, the ones who were against Biden in 2020 (the squad and the progressive wing) are the ones defending Biden now. But the genie is already out of the bottle. Biden will likely get replaced.
Re: US Elections 2024 - the most consequential election again!
I am 47 and working in US for last 24 years ( I finished MS at 23 and then started working)..
I worked in three good companies in last 10 years not caring for titles but mostly for the nature of work and the potential of companies.
Other decision was to invest in RE in CA since 2004, inspite of naysayers saying RE investment is a dead investment.
Both of my decisions have allowed us to achieve a networth of $15 million (after paying for both kids’ undergrad and masters education) but my DH’s family always thinks I am no good and whatever we achieved is due to DH.
One of the reasons why Biden won in 2020 was by choosing Kamala Harris to be his running mate. She checked all boxes, Black American, Asian heritage, hardworking, woman, well educated and a DA in one of populated districts. Many Women voted Biden because of Kamala.
Yet supporting Kamala over Biden (Just because he being a man) gets us labels of ‘Dumb, Disloyal’ from even well educated Asians
In all my years of CA working, have not seen any politician who has risen from grassroots level like Kamala.
How gender bias is deep rooted in this society, pls read this.

Re: US Elections 2024 - the most consequential election again!
Just because, only a few of us are contributing to the thread does not mean the labeling and laments are personal. I was calling DDD in generic terms and not anyone in particular. Playing into Trump's hands by exaggerating Biden's memory issues day in and day out in a trickle just to grab media attention, not standing with the nominee and ceding the floor to the "cabal" conspiracy theorists are what makes them DDD.
Kamala seems to be the only sane one out there and I would support her candidacy as much as I am supporting Biden's. It's about the policies and not the person. But it's not a done deal for her even after Biden drops out since democrats are known for infighting and holding personal aspirations and grudges and so there might be chaos soon - remember Bernie Bros who brought down Hillary in 2016 or Hillary herself not conceding to Obama until late June in 2008!

Since 2016, we have seen how reliable are the opinion polls
It is possible that MAGA voters prefer Biden to face Trump. Then they can play the age card to show how young and fit their clown is
If anyone in age bracket of 55-65 enters the fray, their Trump card is out !!

Re: US Elections 2024 - the most consequential election again!
For me, either Trump or Biden is not a great choice for President. Yes, we need to choose the lesser of evils and that is different depending on the perspective of the voter. The President is more the face of the country, and he/she should exude confidence, strength, and intellect. Unfortunately, what Biden showed in the last debate was a lack of confidence and Strength. And Trump, as usual, his answers are never deep enough to make us comfortable that he knows what he is talking about. Obama was the last President who was strong on all three counts. I believe policy is done by more than the President although he/she can influence.
Kamala Harris too doesn't have a great image. There must be more to her than what we can see. She needs to work on her PR.

Not sure how the pollsters are still in business. RealClearPolitics even has a section on "This day in history" spotlighting how much wrong they were in the pastRBee wrote: ↑Fri Jul 12, 2024 6:56 pm Since 2016, we have seen how reliable are the opinion polls

After watching the presser and a couple of fiery Biden speeches on the campaign trail, I have a sneaky little feeling that this was all just a ruse to distract voters away from the administration's weakest areas namely inflation and immigration. No one is talking about those now! As long as Biden can hold his own in public or the alternate nominee is in the 55-65 "younger" range, Dems win! After all, setting the bar low and playing the victim is how Trump has survived for so long and this maybe a taste of his own medicine!
