OS2ji, There are lot of Indian restaurants in Bay Area.
Idli express has many centers. ( San Jose, Milpitas, Fremont etc) and you can order from doordash and they will deliver to you. So you can retire in Bay Area and not go to Tampa for Idli, Dosa etc

Duh- OS2 must be knowing DD with all its advertising, but not so much about Anand Vihar! Maybe he wants to have "Chai pe Charcha" with other like-minded retired folks while having Idli, Dosa, Vada and not wait for and worry about "how much is enough" to tip the DD driver

For BA living, with a paid off house I will need min $10M to lead same lifetsyle like I will be able to do in India.
After certain age (60+), I would like to come down on elevator as climbing stairs is already hurting my knees. At 8-830am want freshly made idli/vada/upma/dosa/poha with fresh chutney and hot sambar for BF. Don't need all at one day, just one item/day so I get variety. This should be available on dining table without me or my wife lifting a finger.
Same for lunch - 3 days SI and 4 days NI - all hot/fresh kept ready by 1pm. Evening snacks or light food is ok. I am ready to pay for all this services but it will cost me upward of $10M if it runs for 20-30 years. Folks like Pichai and Nadella may be living this kind of lifestyle but their NW is way higher.
Problem with BA is here everyone is rich. With 10M you fall under LIC and will have to fight for these service providers. Dudes with higher savings will offer better salary for these workers and they will scoot.
In India I am in the process of making such arrangements and hope to complete when I move back permanently. Cost there is 1/10th of Bay Area. Who in his right mind will live here, worry about running out of money or drag myself to load/unload dishwashers at ripe old age of 75?
old-spice2 - It appears that you are in Bay Area. Aren't there enough indian choices of restaurants? If you got bored of them, have you considered trying those dishes yourself. If you are retired, it could be a good time pass and fulfilling if you don't hate cooking. With tons of recipes with step by step details, its not too hard if you have the interest. How about some part time cook help?

I visited that place in 2015. It is a bad place to retire. The community is housed in an old abandoned industrial building. They do not provide any food. There is one young lady who orders food from nearby restaurants.
Then I visited their Fremont location few years back. I discovered it is not a RH but a normal apartment complex. Found few gora families living there. When I asked the receptionist what is the provision for food, she showed the kitchen and said "Please cook yourself".
Did not know that, so as usual all that glitters is not gold! It looks like you may have to move next door to me for food, if you would like to stay back in the US!

so what do the maintenance charges look like for one of these per month ?. I know in places like coimbatore - you can get 3 meals a day + an evening snack/coffee for less than 20k INR per month for 2 people. and really good meals too.. because of the availability of fresh produce/dairy etc..

Ain't cheap - but the retired couple can save on multiple business class flights from and to India
I would never go for these 'setups' but dug up this info.
https://www.newhomefuture.com/anand-vihar/ - $460 monthly and meal plan can make the old heads spin -

PL was charging $2800/month as rent for 1 room with bath setup. Not 1 bed room, it is just like a studio where you place a small sofa on one side and may be a double bed on another corner. Small kitchen table to make chai/coffee, cannot cook full meals. That was almost 10 years ago. Current rate will be higher based on the inflation/demand. You have to pay separate for the food they order from outside. It is usually split among the residents.
American RH that is 2 miles away charges $9000/month including meals. Their setup was more luxurious and pleasant. Food is American though, no "thair sadam" (curd rice).

We are not a big restaurant/eating out people. We like to eat at home around 75% of the time. Reasons are many - it is generally not healthy. Except for few outlets Indian food in US suck. Majority of them are Gujju and Andhra run places. With inflation the prices have shot up recently.

I like variety in food, and it need not be fancy or expensive. If not for Indian in-law influence, my wife and I would be sharing one chipotle burrito bowl with tortilla on the side, one veggie max sub from Subway, one buffalo chicken Hoagie from Wawa, Veggie burgers from a Midwest chain called Culver's, one Taco Bell Crunch wrap supreme (with beans substituted for beef), one order of Panneer Biryani from a local Biryani place, one Mysore Rava Masala dosa from a nearby temple and so on. Suggestions to add to the list, most welcome. I am pretty sure that these are more protein-rich and healthier than the SI food I consume day in and day out.
Sorry for venting!

Started liking Cava also when craving Mediterranean. They opened few years back in NJ and have pretty good falafel based menu.
Similar to Chipotle can customize each option including having an option of Basmati rice.
