I do not know wd40. Having got the USC it is in back of our mind that we can always go back to US.
BTW, I lived in india for 15 years and never had the inclination to come back to US and never wanted to come back. We knew half way through our children schools education , we know their interest is in STEM, it would take long time for them to settle in india, and they are NOT fully cut out for indian education. Plus we lived a moderate life in india and living within the means, and invested only in real estate and stock market. More than the money it is feeling that , i had to plug back my children back into US because robbed them of US life earlier.

Coming back to topic. Base in the US. I feel red states are a bit dangerous now. Esp since Trump's plan (2025) is to deploy National Guard in red states to round up 'illegal immigrants'. Guess how they will identify immigrants to start checking? I bet its by visual identification. Then if you dont happen to have your visa/gc on you when you go for grocery, what will happen?
Also, Trump wants states to report any miscarriages or stillbirths happening in their jurisdiction to the Feds (presumably to investigate). Red states are likely to readily comply.
This is just the beginning, what else will they think of?

Stay away from red states at all costs. It's not only abortion, but they might also target contraceptives and birth control pills.
Forget illegal immigration, Stephen Miller, T's main advisor on immigration wants to target even legal immigrants, especially Indians due to our disproportionate influence. Stay up in Northeast or west coast even if the COL is higher.

You are a really good dad, and your kids are really fortunate to have you as their dad. As your kids were born to Indian parents, there is no entitlement to a US life, hence the aspect of "robbing from US life" doesnt exist. The fact that you spent 15 years in India, it is like a lifetime, for your kids relative to their current age. So there is no way, they would know the relative difference between Indian education and US education.
Also the grass always looks green on the other side. Indian education, to me is works well for a lot of people, because there is a template and method to it and Indians thrive when it comes to following a certain template or pattern. While US education is about actually grasping the concepts. I feel Indian education works for most people, even if they are mediocre, to get them to a decent level, especially in STEM related fields.
While US education kids who are smart and genuinely interested in STEM will thrive, rest will go into other fields with less employability.

Its not just about the ROI and outcome. There is something called 'life experience' that youngsters crave. I would have loved to go to a tier 3 US college rather than tier 1 Indian college just for the college life.
I would hope that the kids of NRIs dont have to go through same slog that their parents went through and can actually enjoy life at all stages.

Our kids are nowhere close to the kind of slog which we went through. We were brought up with deprivation and constant humilation that we are not doing well and that if we dont succeed in college, we will have to go and do the dishes in restaurant. After growing up with that kind of scare tactic, any achievement is great achievement for our generation. For me getting into tier 3 college in India was like I won a lottery, because that was how low my self esteem was after I finished my 12th.
My daughter doesnt face anything similar to that. Our kids know that no matter what, they will be well fed and taken care off. Also they dont need to slog like us. There are lots of colleges now in India which provide good experience, ofcourse, US may be better. But then there are lots of other practical considerations. My daughter is extremely close to my wife. My daughter has not spent even one day in her life sleeping in a house without her mother. There is no way she will live alone for her undergrad, I doubt even in India she will not live alone. We have only 1 daughter. We will plan to move our house close to whereever she gets in college. Advantage of being FI and having only 1 child, there are no location constraints.
I know, that staying alone makes kids independent and blah blah blah. But we want the default situation to be that our daughter will be with us, until she finishes her undergrad, then she can choose to do masters anywhere including the US. By the time she reaches masters, she will be 20 plus already and matured. Ofcourse, we can make plans but then life happens. So anything can happen, but still this is my plan.

Obviously, it doesn't make sense for your daughter, who has an Indian passport to go the US for undergrad. But it makes a lot of sense for someone with a US passport. Its much better than going to any college in India. Even IIT.

I am getting lost now, about what your point is. You said you wished you did US undergrad for the experience, did you mean you also wish somehow got the US passport via your parents?
If experience of undergrad in US is important, then passport shouldnt matter. There are plenty of people who go to the US for undergrad/masters.
On the same lines; getting a US passport "just in case" leads to all these kind of complications. So just because someone's parents got them a US passport should they do undergrad in the US? Then why miss out of the schooling experience of US, why only undergraduate? After undergraduate then how about just working in the US? Then we even dont need this R2I forum right, because US is the place to be?

I don't know about this. I did my undergrad in the US and I'm not sure if I think it's such a great experience. Yeah the campuses are a lot better, more choices in majors and electives and the infrastructure is nice but the stupidity that goes around in US college campuses is beyond belief. It's very easy to end up in deep hole if one is easily corruptible.

I will answer both of you at one go, because you both seem confused about what I mean by 'college experience'.
I mean sex. Yep, thats what I mean. Indian Undergrad is a sausage fest and taliban levels of prudishness imposed by wardens.
As a teenager, I would have loved to live in a dorm and go to frat parties. And most teenagers would agree with me. The 'stupidity' that nodegree talks about is exactly why I would prefer a US UG to Indian UG.
Hence undergrad and not grad. Grad school is short and people dont party as much. Its also too old to fully assimilate in US culture and gain a native accent.
Why US passport? Here I am putting my practical desi uncle hat on again. Without US passport, you are kicked out of US after spending 100k+ on UG. With a US passport, you can stay back and make back that money.
Clear enough?
