High achievers retiring always makes it seem exciting because they have made tonnes of money and now they can spend it on travel and experiences and make YouTube videos about them.

I came across this Indian American who FIREd in the US, he was a senior executive at Intuit joined US cricket team above 40, travelling countries etc

You are also high achiever based on your savings. Its only your mindset thats keeping you from excitement, not achievement.

How would someone retire in India if financial experts ( :?: ) are quoting number like 40-50 Crores  , when it got changed from 4-5 Crores ? Looks everybody on YouTube ( as per my very reliable study it is 98.420% FakeTube ;) ) is pulling number from imagination, hence my number is 100 Million to FIRE ;)

4% withdrawal of 50cr means they want to spend 2-3cr every year. If one is living on 2-3cr/yr in today's environment then what can one say. I don't think I can spend that much money every year and not lose my mind. What will I do with 25-30lakhs every month. I have no idea. My social circle doesn't allow me to spend that much. I will be either seen insane or people will stop hanging out with me. I will have to move to a different social class and will feel out of place there. For me to fit in that class I will have to purchase that 200cr flat in Gurgaon. Where do I get that from?

How much travel will I do? I already feel bored when I go to places. It's all repetitive and so inconvenient to travel.

No, I am not a high achiever. I define high achiever as someone who reaches like either senior management in their organisation or it they are individual contributor then they get FAANG type salaries.

My networth was made with a lot of stinginess. If I spend like a high achiever I wouldn't have that networth at all. Also it is extremely difficult to change my mindset now, when my working years are behind me.

Also, another point high achievers are sometimes those who are good in everything, they were good in sports, had hobbies, good looks, charismatic. They were winners all their life. That's how they reached the senior management level. These people will always find exciting things to do.

I am exactly opposite of that. Even my best years the 20s I wasted away. My entire aim was to get away from corporate slavery. There is no way I can identify myself with all the activities and cool stuff that these people do.

This guy travelled to Antarctica, plays in US over 40 team. They are a different league and I cannot relate with it.

That guy is Saurabh Mukherjea, a charlatan fund manager. His funds have all lost money and he is good in making outrageous statements like these. Please ignore him, nobody takes him seriously in India now. He is a joke.

We may not agree with the exact numbers. But it's a fact that in India, yesterday's 100 is today's 1000 and tomorrow's 10000 and day after tomorrow's 100,000. A family dinner in a decent restaurant cost in hundreds probably 10 years ago and now it easily costs 4-5K! The poster-child of India's future COL is Guyana where I refused last year to buy a can of shaving gel for $10 USD! https://www.reddit.com/r/Guyana/comment ... ensive_to/

IMO, three critical success factors for FIRE are low inflation, low taxes and govt help in case stuff hits the fan - India fails in all these three factors.

If someone includes underwear ( mn_op adds everything including underwear in NW as per the video) in Net worth, probably those are very expensive ones :D

Edit : added context
