Presidential debate was a disaster. Biden should volunteer to be replaced imo, he just appeared so fragile.

The Democratic Party backed itself into a corner. I think the best time to replace the candidate for 2024 has already passed.

Biden says only lord almighty could convince him to quit .
There are many 80+ Aged people who are still sharp ( our Amitabh Sr is one of them) but Biden is not one of those. Are Jill Biden and Hunter Biden urging him to stay even when it is clear he cannot perform?

Dumb disloyal democrats deserve a drubbing as they are digging their own grave by not standing united. In contrast, GOP rallies behind its convicted felon, an election denier, an insurrectionist who could have had got his own VP hung in public or murdered a few lawmakers in the capitol building and a bombast who accomplished next to nothing in 4 years of nothing but drama.
Media especially CNN making hay for the last 10 days and regretting how much they have missed out in the last 3.5 years of no-nonsense administration and are now rooting for Trump to come back to rake in billions.
I have never heard anything smart from Trump in any of the 25 or so debates I have watched since 2015. Most of the policy questions were answered with "Mexicans are bad", "We will see what happens", "I am the greatest on this planet", "It's a secret, I am not going to tell you" and so on. If Biden does great on SOTU night by rallying even GOP lawmakers, he's on drugs and if he has a bad start to a debate, he is demented and needs to go.
Biden was smart enough to pass the biggest infra bill, CHIPS act, largest climate bill and biggest gun control bill in 30 years. He was smart enough to avoid all the govt shutdowns that happened multiple times in the "smart" guy's regime! He was smart enough to convert firebrand GOP speakers to moderates. Last but not the least, he was smart enough to keep the far left in check unlike the other guy who's basically a far right's puppet since I am sure he likes abortion with all his philandering and doesn't care about gun rights being raised in NYC. Granted Biden is not smart enough to pardon his son or screw the red states unlike what T did to blue states. Instead, most of the funding from his IRA bill are going to red states.
Just replacing him arbitrarily ignoring the primaries will raise legitimate questions question of why he can't be removed now using the 25th amendment and "Which cabal was running the show until now?" - a fertile ground for more conspiracy theories to add to the 9/11, Covid, Sandy hook and what not. In the worst case, a half-dead or demented Biden is a much better and a safer option than the "other guy" for America.

Tone down your rebuttal by calling us 'Dumb disloyal democrats’.
Have voted a democrat all my voting years in US but very much concerned about Biden’s failing health.
It is bordering on elderly abuse the way his wife/aides are pushing him. Biden doesn’t seem to enjoy his mandatory duties anymore.
Quit, put Kamala Harris on the ticket, choose an equally capable running mate and see if country is ready to vote for a woman president ; 2016 voters came close and now they might cross the line. 1776-2024, we have seen enough men as POTUS. Give women a chance if they have proven what it takes to govern.

While the greatest loudmouth in the world is keeping his mouth shut and you make all the noises, that's suicidal and so beyond dumb, nothing personal!
Raj Guru Roberts only Annointed Trump as the King with specific references to Him in his decree, and not Biden for him to pass his reins at his will to someone else.
"California democrat" is extremely cringy for most independents deservedly or undeservedly and so be careful of what you wish for.
On a lighter note, the moral of the whole story is to ensure not being lean and fit as one ages since it also makes them look frail!

SAPPORO - Much like Stocks, candidates are elected on their future potential not prior accomplishments. No denying that this Biden administration accomplished significant legislative milestones (especially in the first two years thanks to capable Ron Klain). A lot more capable than Obama's West Wing.
The same Obama West Wing alums are now crying for Biden to dropout (the usual bedwetters as they say). But they do have a point though. Dem party (and the country by extension) got screwed over by people too old still clinging onto their power. Take Feinstein, RBG. Why even take such a huge gamble again?

SAPPORO,
This was NY time’s David French’s opED piece today and below points resonate with me. Especially the ones in Bold.
Those who defend Biden’s competence while knowing better become a blue-hatted version of the red-hatted party loyalist.
One of the most consistent realities of the early Trump era in the Republican Party was the massive gap between elite knowledge of Donald Trump and voter perception of Trump. Party leaders saw him up close, knew of his scandals and deranged behavior and complained about him bitterly behind closed doors.
But then what happened? The same people not only deferred to voters who possessed a small fraction of their information; they actually contributed to public ignorance by defending Trump even from the most legitimate criticism. They made the problem worse and then complained bitterly about the predicament they helped create.
In other words, the leaders weren’t leaders at all.
I understand an elected Democrat’s desire to defend the party’s nominee until he’s not the nominee. I understand that every word uttered against President Joe Biden can be used by Trump if Biden stays in the race. But if you have real knowledge of Biden’s limitations and if you then sally forth into public to defend his competence in the face of known contrary facts, then you’ve become a version of what you hate. You’ve become a blue-hatted version of the red-hatted party loyalist.
It’s time for Democratic leaders to lead, to tell the truth in private and in public. Republicans are determined to support a corrupt, aged and unfit man for president. It would be a political and moral failing if Democrats answered that grave challenge with an aged and unfit candidate of their own — all because Democratic leaders failed to heed the harsh lesson taught by the party to their right.

That's such a false equivalence. NYTimes oped columns are mostly trash anyways.
