My family and I are planning to vacation in PR this May - yes, the same "floating island of garbage"! Never been there. Most people visit it as one of the ports-of-call on a cruise ship, but we are actually staying there for 5D/4N. Please share your personal experiences/anecdotes. TIA.

we've been.. back in the day.. it's a fun island or at least used to be.. beautiful beaches, good food.. We stayed at the marriot stellaris casino by the beach.. it had a casino and some good restaurants.. took a few trips to the nearby islands of vieques and culebra, for snorkelling.. would recommend.. other attractions include a rain forest trip to El Yunque national park. Also wanted to see the arecibo observatory, which was featured in a bond movie.. i hear later that this was damaged significantly in an earthquake/hurricane in later years?. Old San Juan had some Indian restaurants if i remember correctly.. if you have a rental car - you can pretty much get around every part of the island.. Bioluminescent bay is another attraction that is cool if you happen to be there on a moonless night. roads are not that great.. probably even worse now after the hurricanes/bankruptcies

Thanks for sharing your experiences and tips. Just checked Stellaris, $400 a night for my travel dates! Remember DOGE at home thread, I am using my points to stay at Hyatt and using the frequent flier miles, even on Frontier Airlines! Yes, renting a car for which I am actually paying for and planning to crisscross the island and take $2 ferry rides to Vieques and Culebra. Visiting my neighbor's parents that came to our Christmas party as well. Not sure how the tolls work though.

Pakistan is on the list and not sure why some Caribbean countries are on it as well! And Vanuatu?!
PR seems to be a safer vacation option now.

What did Bhutan do to be on the red list along with Iran, Syria and Pakistan? Did one of those Elon's 19 year old staffer prepare the list and added the peaceful Buddhist nation by mistake?

Some "Musktern" would have run a query to list the countries without US embassies and Bhutan would be on that list. Bhutan has embassies in Bangladesh, Belgium, India, Kuwait, Australia and Thailand. Conversely, only Bangladesh, India, and Kuwait have embassies in Thimphu. But they do recognize the US and work with them thru their embassy in India. Google Bhutan's version of the world map and you would be surprised!

Be careful in PR. With economic downturn people may look to rob rich retired Indian-Americans.

By no stretch of imagination, I look like a rich Indian American!
No comments on the Konanki case since they must be going thru hell.
