I'm just curious any DFW folks around?
We still can be internet friends, but would be curious to know your thoughts around the housing market, rentals, jobs, Indian-meets and life in general.
Moved from the UK, 4 years back, I guess I'm able to find may way around, but would love to get in touch with the like minded R2Iers.
I intend to move back home in 2 to 2.5 years (3 tops).
Thanks!

One thing I found jarring in Dallas/Austin is too much of beef everywhere. There is beef in the air
In Dallas every second restaurant is a steak house and same in Austin. Coming from Bay Area where there are more Chaat Houses than Steak House, it is an attack on senses. How do pure veggies cope up with this or have they become tuned to so much of "gomata" slaughter?

TBH, I don't eat out much. My food habits and mental habits don't align with the locals anyway. That answer is only the beef and the drivers on the road.
Dallas, off-late has started seeing many non-Texans so they are bringing their own culture. You get a fair share of cultural lifestyle from different parts of country and also world.
It is still laidback, affordable and hope it stays that way.
Thanks for your post!

I'm really curious about Dallas. A lot of my old friends moved there in recent years and seem to have found their sense of belonging. I visited last year in July and found it to be decent overall. Yes, it's hot but also didn't expect to rain so much - which is good.

If you keep people to the side (for a second).
It is a good place to live. Year round sunshine (although you will get ocassional freeze). Well connected to India by flights. You get almost everything 'Indian' spices, cloths etc., lot's of big companies, low taxes.
There is a lot of influx of people here anyway.
All the best!

If one is still working, Dallas maybe the place to be - but for soon to retire/retired folks, it's Florida all the way! I thought most of the country already figured that out. They don't waste money on silly things like public education and infrastructure here!

One thing I would like to highlight, the property taxes are ridiculously high. Whether you live in the property/not, you got to pay that tax and it hurts the pocket dearly.

Same here in Florida and mine is 10k+ - Funny how SALT deductions cap targeted to punish deep blue states has extended to deep red states as well!
