Not a political thread but I want to chronicle about things which I absolutely cannot adjust with and find no respite in future. And the things I miss about west.

Very first thing I don't like in India are that most people are not considerate. They do as they wish and do not follow rules even when living in good gated communities and are well educated and earning decent money. They will park anywhere they want without considering that it's gonna block you. Road rage is very high and it's better you keep your head down and say sorry even when it's not your fault. You never know when you will encounter a hard headed person and get beaten up.
Police is totally useless in managing any traffic. Their main goal is to earn bribe from those breaking rules. There are traffic cameras on lot of traffic lights so govt is earning shit ton of money already.
You do not get anything in return for paying taxes. You pay 30% income tax, nearly 20% GST, petrol tax of 100% of the cost, tax when buying property for stamp duty. Still the return is nothing. You have to pay tolls to use highways. No free quality education, govt schools are bhagwan bharose and fees in private school is very high. Govt hospitals are in really bad shape as they are extremely crowded. Taxpayers and non-taxpayers get the same service. So you end up using private which again is very very expensive. Trash collection is non-existent and it gets dumped on any nearby vacant land. Water pooling everywhere in rain and it results in lot of water borne diseases. Lot of potholes on the road which can give you experience of driving on the moon. Working with govt offices is a nightmare and you have to pay bribe in addition to paying their exorbitant fees. Pollution in winter months is insane with no planning from govt. Police stations are worthless unless you are well connected. Govt and their babus have completely failed us. Politicians are there to make money and not to solve any issues or service

Bingo, Bang for the buck is low in India! 6 months ago when I was in India , my cousin almost broke down when she was recollecting how she was treated by the government officials when she was trying to collect her husband's life insurance amount after he passed. She said one government official commented if she was really the wife or a mistress!! Like you mentioned these are not uncommon and people are very inconsiderate. Do you think if the economy improves this will get better ? I doubt.

Excessive Taxes with nothing much in return makes it imprudent to lose the NRI status. The amount of money purportedly saved in lower cost of living is washed out with higher taxes.
Rude people can be handled by being rude to them
The only governmental interaction I have is while getting in and getting out. Hopefully the getting out part is not ruined by the recent tax clearance certificate rules especially for those domiciled in India.

Gurgaon is a city with highest per capita income in the country. Most of its population is the one with very high tax base. Most properties are very highly valued and real estate transactions are very high, resulting in huge collection of taxes. It's a small city compared to big ones and newly made. Hence doesn't have to deal with legacy infra issues. Even with such huge revenue generation, Haryana govt isn't able to manage the city. It's municipality is pathetic and full of corruption. This is a classic example on how corruption can ruin any plans for becoming a developed country. As Raguram says Gurgaon isn't normal India in terms of revenue and possibilities and probably is comparable to any developed country city.
Even with all this, infra of Gurgaon is pathetic at best when compared to developed country. There is no cleanliness, dust all over the place and never cleaned, pothole filled roads, drainage is a big issue as drains are never cleaned, water supply is a big problem, hawkers all over, trees are almost for namesake, stray animals all around, jhopdi all over the places, water pooled, trash on vacant land, govt departments are useless .....and the list goes on. Primary reason is lazy and incapable jaat population sitting in govt offices. They should have privatized this city and gotten rid of native population. Native population doesn't belong in this place. Their mindset will not gel with the corporate crowd that lives here. This native population should not be involved in managing the city thru municipality. On top the state govt has totally diverted the funds from the city to other parts of haryana and starved the city's infra requirements. It's a total mess of management.

this is the exact crib/ question i had when i visited my brother's retirement Villa in CBE. Their Villas are nestled in rural coimbatore close to the hills.. it's beautiful with farms everywhere and greenery all around. if you went on the terrace of one of this villas and looked around , a pleasant sight all around until your eye looks at one of the fields close to the gated villa properties.. it's where they dump all the trash from the community. Apparently there is no trash pickup because it's outside the panchayat/municipality limits and the builders solution is to convert one of the fields into a giant trash heap.. such an eyesore, not to mention all the plastics and other contaminants getting into the ground water/soil.. surely someone could create a business case for a recycling/ garbage pick up service instead of raping the land in this fashion ?

Too bad they don't have the NIMBY concept in India!

There is no business case for trash pickup in India. Billionaires are perfectly willing to live in filth. No one will pay a private pickup company to remove eyesores.

Maybe Modi should clone himself a million times like Chitti Rajnikanth in the Robot movie to fix this issue! It looks like all the money is literally going down the drains.

There are private players as well and they make decent money by recycling. But still the volume is huge and even then there is no support by municipal govt. They need to create dumping sites. There is big movement to separate wet vs dry trash. Wet trash is used to make fertilizer. Dry trash is recycled. But even with all this volume is huge. And then there are natives of Gurgaon and lower strata who doesn't care. They are willing to live in filth. People don't keep their surroundings clean. It's mind boggling. Even a dog cleans a place where he sits. But certain class of society lives in pure filth. They would be sitting and watching shorts all day but would not clean where they live. Even if it's temporary housing they should atleast keep it clean. Keeping clean doesn't cost money.
And then there is apathy from govt and the natives who have undeservingly hogged the positions in municipalities. Haryana's native jat population needs to leave Gurgaon. They do not belong here, anymore.
