Happy New Year Jinsa.

As far as 2024 goes, loss of club has affected my daily posting; I feel down that this hangout has not still been able to attract funny bones/stalwarts like Dixit,RRS, Desi sir and many more whose posts I miss reading.

My goal for 2025 is to stay away from all whatsapp conversations but engage in more volunteering. So much unnecessary drama in these family/friends WA groups . Faltu headache nahin chahiye mere ko, so only use it for wishes but rest, make messages disappear within 24 hrs :)

The major personal achievement for 2024 was moving from a residence of 20 years to "God's waiting room". It was stressful, chaotic, and challenging but ultimately pulled it off. Every indiscriminate and casual purchase that we made in the past was staring at us on their judgement day with the judges quarrelling about whether to keep it or let go.

After the move, we have made a lot of acquaintances/friends with most of them at least 20-25 years younger than us and have skillfully avoided being called uncle by any of them so far! But on the flip side, secured a lifetime senior discount at a local Great clips salon probably because they know the real color of my hair. We have also had more visitors that stayed with us in the last year than those that stayed with us all the 20+ years in NJ. We even had a forum member visit us at home and it was a pleasure to host them.

I was in the Caribbeans when the Indians won the cricket world cup after a dozen failed attempts and it was quite memorable. Immensely enjoyed my trip to SFO in May as well. I was not able to take my annual visit to India this year but maybe make it up with visiting twice in 2025.

Financially, managed to do much worse than the overall market if that's even possible. Unfortunately, I lost my beloved dog after he had only a few days of retirement in Florida.

Biggest disappointment that rankles me from time to time is "how could" about the elections even though the outcome would not impact me much. It has changed my perspective of Americans for worse and forever.

Losing the old forum was disappointing. But WhatsApp groups had already killed the old forum long before it crashed and only a few were contributing members. Thanks to Jinsak we have a hangout now and have most of those frequent contributors other than Boca and Koi that come to my mind. It's open and anyone can chime in as they wish.

The goals for 2025 are to learn Telugu and Spanish to the level of being able to make conversations.

Happy New Year to you all!

Thanks for sharing. Learning Telugu? Wow it is not an easy language but all the best.

2024 was harsh on me. I lost my old man in the middle of the year had an impact for the rest of the year. Lost my most favorite American neighbor (never shed tears even for some close but did for a Gora, that close he was to me).

2025: I'm aiming to R2I and celebrate Diwali there after 25 years being abroad. I hope I can do that. Next few months are key. Plan to buy a property so that I can live off the rent from there when I retire.

I know Tamil and Kannada and Telugu is very similar and then there is google translate. Unlike young kids, we can get embarrassed too easily to even try to speak and that's the difference between success and failure most of the times.

Thanks for sharing. Learning Telugu? Wow it is not an easy language but all the best.

Fair point!
Kannada scripture and Telugu align. Tamil is comparatively easy to learn, thank god.
I guess most (may be all) Indian languages are Sanskrit-derivatives.

Tell me about that. I share the same. I was an active member in the old club since 2007. Learnt a lot and made good friends too. That was so vibrant hangout.

How come that website/forum has become so irrevocable? These days almost everything is recoverable. I know many in the group are techies, but I'm happy to offer my help if we need to recover this. May be we could start with what has really happened, did we back up, what was the backend database etc.,?

If this is point of no return, that would be sad.
