We are going back in next one week. I feel exact opposite of sapro and others. Wife is happy as she feels like fish out of water in US. She curses me for asking her to take USC. She does not feel like "American", so holding US PP feels odd.

I am happy to escape 2-3 weeks waiting time to see a specialist and general incompetency of doctors in US (my personal exp) combined with sky high cost for everything from eating out to tipping. I have no plans to visit US once I am back in India but wife wants to visit kids. I shall move to RH during that time as I don't want to cook.

My last few days of loading dishwasher left. Also the suburbs are isolated and lonely. I may end up in a mental asylum if continue to live like this for x years. In India I can drive and enjoy festivals, food, social life, wedding etc. Within two weeks of landing there is a wedding in NCR and with all the money saved that was not spent on LTC/Healthcare in US, can be splurged on flight and 5* hotels.

For us last 30 years was like exile - now "vanvaas" is coming to an end and we can live a real life of whatever is left. Let the NRIs crib about traffic jam, noise and dogs, we are going to have fun. Also less NRIs coming back to India is good as it keeps RE cost under control.

Is it due to Kumbh? I need to downgrade to 4* hotel at this rate or look for a hotel far away from the wedding venue.
International Conference on Communication, Electronics and Digital Technologies -NICEDT-2025 is happening in Delhi during that time - stay away since you might bump into your former colleagues :)

I can't take this chaos and cacophony anymore and counting down the days to go back home :) May not visit in the future unless there is an occasion that I can 't miss. Very sad to feel this way, maybe my patience is running out with age.

I miss my daily walking in India. Walking without noise pollution and dogs chasing you, is a costly affair in India. It seems like we need to shell out at least half-a-million dollars to live in a fancy gated community for that privilege.

Gated communities are a bit unsettling for me personally. Yeah you get some sense of security (I doubt if it's anything more than just a feeling) and the guards will chase away the dogs for you but feel like luxury jails. Also you have to keep walking in the same loop everyday and keep running into the same people. The amenities are nice to have though, so tradeoffs.

My friend arranged for accomodation near the venue. That saved around 52K INR.

I used to attend all those tech exhibitions in the 80s in Pragati Maidan and other 5* hotels. That was my "bookha-nanga" days, so never missed any free lunch in such events. I used to be impressed with NRI executives from Motorola/Digital giving lectures in American accent. My dream was to acquire that accent and speak in their style.

Many events were held in Taj Mahal and Maurya Sheraton where they don't allow two wheelers at the entrance. Used to park my mobike in employee's parking lot, lock the helmet and walk up to the hotel. The guard used to be better dressed than me. I never looked at him and used to slip by quietly.

Once I attented a party in French Embassy in Shanti Path. Had to partner with a guy in the conference who had a Premier Padmini. We met at Moti Bagh and rode with him. Was ashamed to go in my Kawasaki. There were many French ladies wearing Ostrich like skirts and drinking wine.

Dog chasing is feature not a bug, as it would make you run faster and help elevate heartbeat a bit :)

my sympathies.. this is where i ended up during my last visit.. i felt like you can get better food in NJ than the stuff i had in chennai/hyd/b'lore.. the crowds, pollution and the infra gave me quite a bit of anxiety, the income gap between the haves and havenots was heartbreaking.. and my quiet central NJ town felt like a haven in comparison.

This is what always gets me too. Even more jarring to me that many in my close relatives who order 1000/- drinks at Starbucks complaining that the Swiggy guy who gets them that order is getting too many freebies from the government.
