Stree 2
I had high expectations from this film after Stree 1 , one of the best films I had seen . The film starts with Vicky ( Rajkumar Rao ) still dreaming about the character played by Shraddha Kapoor in the last part ; she has no name and is unnamed throughout the movie . And she does appear before him eventually looking divine . Her sheer presence seems to light up the whole screen . This time it is to fight a new spectre called sarkata ( one whose head has been cut ) that has returned to haunt the small town of chanderi where Vicky and his friends reside .
The town of Chanderi has modernized since the last instalment of the movie when it was steeped in tradition and females even smoke there . This seems to have irked the male chauvinist in sarkata and he is out to restore male patriarchy . He kidnaps any female who is modern and keeps her imprisoned in a cave . This is similar to stree in part 1 who used to kidnap men . Later it is revealed that he is the spirit of the same man who had been beheaded by stree earlier because he had killed her lover on their wedding night . Now he still roams around beheaded , terrorizing women with his head in the arms of it's headless trunk and rolling the head which innocuously rolls towards the modern woman only to turn into a terrifying monster that drags her to his cave .
But the real savior of the town is not Shraddha but it is Vicky , who along with his friends Bittu (Aparshakti Khurana ) and Jana ( Abhishek Banerjee ) has to fight the monster with the help of Rudra ( Pankaj Tripathi ) the elder statesman of the group . The four form a funny gang and their jokes keep us laughing throughout the movie . Not only the jokes are truly funny , they are delivered with a sense of comic timing that is remarkable . Problem with this is that it makes the movie more funny than scary .
The scary parts are made worse by the unnecessary addition of Akshay Kumar and bhediya ( Varun Dhawan playing the same role of a wolf from another film called Bhediya ) . Their addition means the whole scary scenes are besmirched by a confusing hotchpotch of characters .
The last blow to the film is delivered by the ending . The ending actually starts well with Shraddha telling a lovestruck Vicky that she is actually stree's daughter and therefore she is a ghost herself because of which she and Vicky can't be physically together , but she will always be with him spiritually and disappearing in a glow of fire part of which goes into Vicky's body . One feels that now the two of them will be in a timeless relationship transcending physical boundaries . But in the next scene she is dancing sexily with Varun Dhawan !! Now what the hell !! Makes a mockery of the whole romance and makes the climax of the film look so frivolous .
Tammanah Bhatia looks stunning as Rudra's paramour Shama but the song on which she sensously gyrates has been cut short in the film . Thus the interesting parts are cut to make way for scenes which stretch the film .
The movie scores on comedy dialogues which have been wittily written and even better acted by the male actors . The icing of the cake is the pure hindi in which the dialogues are spoken and not the urdu laced hindi of other hindi movies . But the horror part is not as good as expected . Songs are good but cut short and music Is decent . Photography and colours are good . The movie does not match the original stree movie .
Verdict---Just about okay .
Two stars out of five .

Re: Ashdoc's movie reviews
Article 370
The movie is based on the dramatic events in August 2019 when article 370 which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir was suddenly abrogated without warning by the BJP government sending a wave of enthusiasm among nationalists in the country .
The movie begins however with the killing of Burhan Wani in 2016 , the Kashmiri terrorist who was the hero of separatists in the Kashmir valley by Zooni Haksar ( Yami Gautam ) who is a security personnel working for the Indian government . The deft manner in which he is killed after finding his whereabouts by threatening his girlfriend without a single collateral causality is impressively shown but doesn't impress those in power and Zooni is removed from her job and this disheartens her especially because she is a Kashmiri hindu who has lost her father to terrorism . She thinks Kashmir is a lost case . Burhan is immediately replaced a by another jehadi by the terrorists as their leader and he gives similar blood curdling speeches calling for jehad and opening asks for joining Pakistan loudly cheered by his audience .
Zooni gets a chance to operate again in Kashmir when she is made part of NIA ( National investigation agency ) . This time the government is determined to abrogate article 370 and Zooni now has a chance to redress the wrongs done to her community .
The movie unfolds like a thriller and keeps you brimming with anticipation for the next turn of events . And doesn't disappoint in keeping the audience interested . The Pulwama attack is shown killing the armyman Zooni has affection for and that increases her passion for revenge .The famous scene when major Gogoi strapped a Kashmiri with ropes to the front of his vehicle to escape a stone pelting mob was recreated to the cheers of the audience in the theater . And the audience was clapping to other dramatic moments of the movie too .
Arun Govil plays PM Modi and it is his decision to change the status of Kashmir . But an impediment to it is another article which has a section deliberately removed . The paper with the original article containing the section which will help change the status of Kashmir is hidden in the library of J and K secretariat and it is upto Zooni to find it in another thrilling sequence .
The movie shows Kashmiri leaders in cahoots with terrorists making terrorism a profitable business that they do not want to end . It shows how terrorism is financed by ISI using loopholes in interborder trade and how pakistani sympathizers first help security agencies capture a few terrorists and use their established trust to then help many more escape .
The chance to change all this comes in August 2019 when home minister Amit Shah ( Kiran Karmarkar ) uses the formerly deleted section in article 367 recovered by Zooni to prove that if the Kashmir assembly is dissolved the parliament has the power to change the status of Kashmir . All this is shown with high drama in parliament opposed with great agitation by opposition leaders . The media is hooked on to this high drama and PM Modi has to escape the assembled media by traveling in a plain car while media is sent on a wild goose chase of another vehicle pretended to be his vehicle .
But the Pakistanis are not without their tricks and they hatch a plan to make the Indian government look like a villain during the whole episode . It is upto Zooni to discover their plan and demolish their ambitions in another thrilling action packed sequence . So how does she do that ? Watch the movie for that .
The music and it's beats really keeps the tempo of the action running throughout the movie and acting is decent by everyone . Plenty of verbal confrontations add to the entertainment with action scenes unfolding one after another as the count of dead bodies piles up . Only this time Zooni is not going to show the dead bodies for separatists to make martyrs out of them . The movie is dominated by Yami Gautam who makes most of the opportunity .
Verdict---Good .

Bastar the naxal story
I shall write about the whole movie rather than keep suspense about anything because the movie is not attracting audiences and the theater was empty . But the movie is important and needs to be watched .
The movie begins with a couple who have lost their son by defection to the side of the maoists ruling Bastar district hoisting the Indian flag and being punished by the maoists for this . The husband is given punishment that Gabbar Singh in Sholay would have been proud of . Both his hands are cut off but he is not allowed to live to take revenge like thakur because he is killed after that . The woman and her daughter are allowed to go because the maoists like to keep their image as desi robinhoods who fight against exploiters for rights of common people .
As the violence in the forested region of India spirals out of control IPS Neerja Madhavan ( Adah Sharma ) is sent to control it and her helicopter is promptly greeted by a bullet fired at it . Her attempts to control the situation are initially utter failures because politicians shamelessly want to keep the areas designated as disturbed areas to earn political benefits . No reinforcements are sent when she asks for them to protect a CRPF camp and it is brutally assaulted by maoists who massacre 76 CRPF jawans and set fire to their camp burning them alive .
In court a lawyer tries to argue that certain so called intellectuals are agent provocateurs of the violence as every visit of these intellectuals to these areas for purposes of research is followed by attacks by maoists . Clearly they are providing aid to the maoists , but all his efforts to get the court to act against maoists are in vain . The court squashes all charges against them . The ecosystem that protects them has spread itself to the judiciary . And why not . Huge amounts of money are being spread around to foment more violence and prevent action against those aiding them .
The liberals wear posh clothes and party in fancy restaurants planning their anti national activities . They cosy up to pakistani jehadis and communists from europe . They speak slick English from their oily voices to convince the judge of their arguments while the nationalist lawyer and the nationalist politician speaking against them can manage only hindi because the nationalists in these remote areas come from rural regions . Every terror act committed by the maoists is celebrated at rock shows in campuses of universities like JNU by dancing in macabre fashion .
But the leader of the maoists is increasingly afraid of Neerja who is hell bent on taking revenge for the massacre of CRPF jawans and wants to flee the forests . She does get her pie of revenge by killing him towards the end along with other ring leaders of the violence , and is rewarded by charges of crossing the line and enquires into her actions . The ecosystem is bent upon stopping her . But the enquiry does not find anything . She utilizes this opportunity to swear to root out the leftists and the liberals tearing at the vitals of the nation , but obviously this fight is still on and the movie finishes with the fight still unfinished .
The story that finishes well in this tale is that of the woman whose husband is killed . She enlists as special police officer at Neerja's insistence and meets her son fighting for the maoists in the midst of the mayhem . Manages to convince him to switch sides . That single moment is not enough for the audience as the rest of the situation is as grim as ever . The maoists are still continuing their gruesome activities which include throwing small children in burning fires and killing the political leader trying to protect common people in a macabre orgy of violence stabbing him till he dies in a pool of blood .
The movie has a drab colour throughout due to the grim proceedings that make bright colours undesirable for such a film . Music is decent and photography is not bad . The movie is not being watched by the audience due to lack of awareness about these areas and the remoteness of the jungle areas in which it is occurring . Somehow it is not glamorous to see violence here unlike a beautiful place like Kashmir having better connectivity . Also the barbarity of the violence is starkly shown which is realistic but off putting . You soon lose count of the dead as more and more people are killed . One good thing is that the left liberals are clearly deemed as enemies of the nation in no holds barred fashion . Next time you read their opinions in international media you know they are a bunch of liars in cahoots with mass murderers . Remember the message of the movie about 100 years of communism and 100 million dead .
The above message should be enough for any right thinking Indian to watch the movie inspite of it's gruesomeness and drabness .
Verdict--- Good .

Swatantrya veer Savarkar
The film has been made to give Savarkar the importance that is due to him , neglected as he has been due his idea of hindutva ( hinduness ) which ran straight against the vote bank politics of the congress party which ruled India for long .
It shows him to be of different calibre from childhood and one of his elders dies worrying about what will happen to him considering his nationalistic ideas even in young age in British ruled India . Even when marriage is on the cards he asks his wife Yamunabai to marry him only if she is ready to share life with a man who will tread the path of fire . She does , and even Gandhi congratulates her for living life with a person who he can't even tolerate for one hour .
Savarkar creates a secret society called Abhinav bharat in Pune and participates in lokmanya Tilak's swadeshi agitation burning all British made things . Goes to Britain and meets other revolutionaries and plans violent revolution . Some of his compatriots die on the gallows and he is sentenced to kaala pani , a hellish incarceration in Andaman islands for two repeated terms of 25 years which no other prisoner has got because he is far too special and special people receive special treatment...
In the cellular jail he is confronted with his British jailer who is a psychopath who tortures inmates and his subordinate who is worse because he is a religious fanatic giving better treatment only to those who convert to islam . Earlier Savarkar has been allied with muslims in his fight against the British but is this treatment the reason he turned towards hindutva ? The film does not give a clear answer .
The scenes in cellular jail are pure hell . The solitary confinements driving a person almost mad , the brutal beatings with heavy rods , the horrifying unsanitary conditions . In between some emotional moments of meeting brother in the same jail .
The petitions sent to the British government for release seem to be a format that anyone has to write to the government . When Gandhi is asked to appeal for Savarkar's release he himself offers to help write a petition . Would a petition dictated by Gandhi forwarded by Savarkar have been any different from Savarkar's own petition ? Not likely .
When Savarkar is told that Gandhi is going to appeal for his release his reaction is a surprised "Has Gandhi become that big ?" which drew laughs in the theater . They had met in Britain when Savarkar talked of tearing out hearts of Britishers while Gandhi talked of nonviolence .
In fact as Savarkar comes out of jail he and Gandhi are at loggerheads politically . When they meet Gandhi talks about dalits as harijans while Savarkar is opposed to giving any caste a particular name . In this issue Savarkar is met with other opposition . Brahmans refuse to allow dalits in temples and he builds a separate temple where dalits are not only allowed but upper caste people eat food along with them and prepared by them .
The biggest problem however is the separatist ideology Jinnah is spreading among muslims and Savarkar becomes leader of hindu mahasabha to counter this . His ideology is hindutva . Hindutva according to Savarkar defines a person who believes his holy places and roots are in India as a hindu . Even a muslim who believes that his holy places and roots are primarily in India is welcome according to Savarkar . But there should be no regionalism according to him and a works of a Bengali person like Rabindranath Tagore should be equally respected in other regions of the country he defines as akhand Bharat . Savarkar is nothing but dazzling genius and the congress party is justly afraid of him .
In fact so shrewd is Savarkar that he suspects congress deliberately gave no security to Gandhi inspite of previous assassination attempts so that hindu nationalists could be blamed when Gandhi is shot dead thus wiping out all sympathy in the country for hindu nationalism . Congress realises both his shrewdness and audacity . So when pakistani prime minister comes visiting Savarkar is arrested so that he creates no trouble . Savarkar's sharp intellect is on show here too as he corrects the police officer who tells him the orders to arrest him have come from the elected prime minister by calling Nehru the selected not elected prime minister , a reference to Gandhi selecting Nehru over Patel ? Later he cheekily admits that if he had not been arrested he would have blown the pakistani's car by bomb . The movie ended with this scene drawing loud cheers from the audience .
The movie is driven by Randeep Hooda's life like portrayal of Savarkar . You feel as if Savarkar is standing in front of you . The effort put by Hooda is terrific and kudos to him for that . Ankita Lokhande shines her scenes as his wife . Rajesh Khera superbly plays the glib talking Gandhi who cleverly pushes his wrong ideas down the throat of the Indian public . The movie shows how Savarkar's ideas were right on every point he differed with Gandhi . Not surprisingly Savarkar's ideas have come of age today after he is long gone . His ideas have outlasted him because they are timeless and much needed as the country faces multiple challenges .
Photography in the movie has a dark hue because what transpires on screen is a dark theme of hellish suffering in the Andamans . Music is good . The movie is made to make one feel awe of Veer Savarkar and succeeds .
Rating---Good .
Four stars out of five .
