We are safe and doing well. We 'evacuated' to Atlanta voluntarily for two reasons. The first one was that my DS was taking a flight from Tampa airport which was closed 9AM Tuesday morning and got him rebooked to fly from Atlanta. The second reason was to be respectful to the once-in-a-century weather event in Tampa. At least with a hurricane one gets multiple days of notice unlike earthquakes and tornadoes!

It was in the news 'bigly' and so a lot of our friends checked in on us even those that have been out of touch for years and so it was a plus to feel special. No one cared when we were hit by snowstorms and nor'easters in NJ :)

We came back last night and there is no visible property damage inside and out mostly because it's a new construction supposedly built to withstand cat 4 hurricanes. We lost power for a day which was not bad. We took local roads for close to 50 miles on our way back with a lot of anxiety and many older homes were damaged and tree branches broken but the debris were cleared off the roads. I guess Florida is as prepared to handle the hurricanes as the northeast is prepared for snowstorms.

The saving grace of this ordeal is that we never need to evacuate again having seen the worst of it and moreover the 'sharpies' are coming back with full force in January to direct the future hurricanes away from this deep-red state :)

The bigger worry is that as Ron Desantis is busy banning books and watching bathrooms to ensure it's being used based on gender at birth, the home insurance market is imploding.
